The Planet, along with Chicago’s own SquareOne of B-Side Radio, have joined forces to bring you the week in review in Hip-Hop and current events, along with the occasional special guest and some music to keep you moving through your day.
This episode of IllSide Radio discusses 50 Cent’s troubles with Interscope as he nears the completion of his deal. He released the track “Outlaw” at the end of last week as well as a diatribe against his label, threatening to hold his album hostage if they don’t get their minds right. Should 50 pull a Jay-Z and buy himself out of his contract? If so, where would he release the album? Does it behoove Interscope to put its all behind the album of a guy who isn’t going to re-up? Is this the end of the aftermath three headed monster? Is Dr. Dre finished?
Rapper Sean P went off on female emcees and their underwhelming albums. Does he have a point or is it Hip-Hop sexism? Should his issues with the albums of lady rappers apply across all sexes? Aren’t there enough garbage male rappers out there with underwhelming albums to dispute what he says? Does it matter what he feels in the grand scheme of things? Should female rappers focus on a female audience rather than trying to impress male listeners to whom they are just body parts?
Drake was recently awarded songwriter of the year by one of the various bodies that bestow those kings of honors. Is he worthy of such a designation? With his recent forays into extensive singing and the backlash against the style he made popular, would the people accept an album of Drake singing?
