Supreme Anniversary, Deng Be Damned, Four Horseman Dismount

This week”s episode is action packed as we discuss a few topics all over the map.We discuss the breakup of supposed Hip-Hop supergroup, The Four Horseman. Does it even matter at this point, with no album ever released? Were they Slaughterhouse 1.0? We play what if in terms of whether they could have released an album and made a mark.

Next up was Nicki Minaj’s “Stupid Hoe” video with 4.8 million views in one day. Does that reflect her pop status or the lunacy of the viewers. With her Barbie allegory, what effect does that song and video on children?

Drake says there is no response to Common’s “Stay Scheming” diss coming, talking that peace shit. Did he miss the opportunity to strike a blow for his generation? Did he do the right thing? Was it some hoe shit? We discuss all of this.

We get in some NBA action and talk Lakers, Bulls, the early season and whether Loul Deng is enough of a sidekick to get Derrick Rose to an NBA title.

Last, but not least, we look back on Supreme Clientele 12 years later. Was this the album that kept Wu-Tang alive through most of their sophomore slumps? How much did Lord Superb actually contribute to the record? All this and more on IllSide Radio. So sit back, relax and take a ride on the Ill Side.

Wu-Tang REALLY Ain’t Nothing To Fuck With, NFL Playoffs, Common Stays Scheming

This week we take a look at the recent revelations concerning the Wu-Tang Clan that came out when someone filed a Freedom of Information Act request on the FBI’s surveillance of the late Russel Jones (ODB). It seems the group (or associates of the group) were every bit as grimey as it appeared on their earlier records.  Are they the only rappers under surveillance? What doe sthis do to their legacy?

We look at the recent beef betweeon rappers Drake and Common. What is it REALLY about? Does Common have the standing to call Drake soft in light of his history? Is this a winnable battle for Drake? What doe sit mean for Hip-Hop. We look at it on multiple angles and our answer may surprise you.

We also look at the NFL playoffs and the winners and loser are going into this weekend’s action.

All this and much more on IllSide Radio.  So sit back, relax and take a ride on the Ill Side.

IllSide Radio Celebrates The Purple Tape On Its Sweet 16

This week’s episode of IllSide Radio focuses solely on the 16th Anniversary of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, the celebrated purple tape. We take a look back at that magnificent era in Hip-Hop music and how the album was initially received. We look at its effect on Hip-Hop music overall and the culture as well.

Not only did it launch the career of Raekwon but it was also the first hint that Ghostface Killah would be the brilliant soloist that he became. The album gave us our first look at Capadonna. How many albums would try to reproduce that brilliance, including Rae himself 15 years later? Where does the album stand all time? We answer it with gusto.

I can’t lie to you, this is one of the most fun episodes of this show we have ever done. Just going back and remembering that era and remembering how it felt going through that album the first time. Hearing those immortal skits and some of those songs together just brought back a flood of memories and enthusiasm.

IllSide Radio Mix Show: Black Rob Rocks, L.E.P Lurks, Wu-Tang Wilds Out

You’ve been listening to us yap for a while now and the dynamic duo has decided to go back to the beats and do a full on mix show. We’re going to let the music do (most of) the talking and hit you with some of the dopest music from the week that was for those that either missed it or aren’t connected to the music enough to get the latest heat. Heaven forbid people have actual jobs.

We got a few bangers in this edition of the mix show. We got a few representations from the 90’s artists including Ghostface, AZ, Sean Price, Black Rob, Smif N Wessun and more that flat out bang. Good production and strong lyricism can bring anyone up to date.

We got a new joint from the kid Mixo from the Stereo Boyz out of Detroit and Chicago’s L.E.P. along with Ski Beatz. The bring a strong flavor from the Midwest and Ski is just the underground unheralded champion right now.

We talk briefly about the police-driven riot that broke out last week at the album release party for Pete Rock and Smif N Wessun’s Monumental. Keep it locked in and chill on the IllSide Radio Mixshow.

Sit back, relax, and take a ride on the Ill Side.
